If we are to see changes in our nations in 2023, we need to see fresh Christian revivals, like God did in the past. When revival came to America through the preaching of George Whitefield, so many people got converted that people thought Jesus would return soon to establish his kingdom on the earth.

What is revival?

So what is revival? It’s the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Christian believers and on whole communities or even cities, such that society changes for the better. It’s simply a repeat of the outpouring of the Spirit in Acts 2, but for modern times.

The Model of Acts 2

In this Pentecost outpouring we see many characteristics of revivals. Let’s pray for each one in 2023:

1. God’s people begin to humble themselves (the disciples were humbled through the cross and after his ascension began to meet together in humbling and prayer)

2. Daily prayer (Acts 1:14)

3. An outpouring of the Spirit in a community (Acts 2:1-4)

4. Preaching of the gospel by all : a necessity to convert people (Acts 11:19-21)

5. Conviction of sin and repentance (Acts 2:37-38)

6. Lots of conversions to the Christian Faith (Acts 2:41, 4:4, 5:14)

7. The spread of the Gospel (Acts 1:8)

8.  Renewal of the people of God with a new passion for Jesus, the power of the Spirit and much evangelism (Acts 2:42-43)

9. Holiness (Acts 5:11)

10. Much love (Acts 4:34-35)

11. The community is affected and not just believers. Society is healed (Acts 9:42)

12. Movements of missions outside the country (Acts 13:2-4)

Evan Roberts prayers

The young man who was greatly used in the Welsh Revival of 1904, prayed two key prayers.

Firstly:

“Bend me, bend the Church, bend the world”

We see this pattern in the book of Acts as the Holy Spirit begins with the disciples, then touches the people of God and then impacts the world.

Secondly:

“Send the Spirit now, for Jesus Christ’s sake”

Let’s pray in this manner for 2023.
